CROCKPOT HP INSTRUCTIONS by ©2001(Suzanne Wilson)

I have a lot of luck using my crock pot with making
soap. I do not however have any hard and fast rules or
any time tables.

I have to stick to 3 lb batches as my crock will not hold any more then that safely.

Follow all safety steps when working with lye and hot soap products.

Step one is to heat and melt oils in my crock pot on high setting.

While oils are melting/heating I mix my liquid and lye solution.

When oils are all melted I add the lye/liquid mix to the oils and mix well with a wooden spoon. At this point I put the lid on and just let things work.

I do not leave the crock pot unattended and I have it set near a sink in case of a cook over( which I have never had, thank goodness =))

I keep an eye on the cooking and just let the soap roll and bubble into itself. When it appears to no longer be moving/working or it is getting to close to coming out of the crock I stir things down.

I continue to watch and stir when needed until  the mixture appears to be jelly like. At this point I continually stir and test the soap for doneness using the spoon and tongue method.

When it tests done I turn off the crock let the soap sit untill around 150 degrees and then add fo,eo's and additives.

It is now ready to be put into molds. Quart milk cartons work very well for this.

A great recipe I just did was for a poo bar. I did not have coconut oil so used lard...it works nicely for oily hair, I find it just a little drying for mine...but makes a great bath bar too.

3 oz. sweet almond oil
8 oz. castor oil
16 oz. olive oil
1 oz. shea butter
16 oz lard
2 oz. grapeseed oil
2 oz safflower oil
18 oz liquid
6.02 oz lye
I infused marshmallow root into the olive oil for
about a week before making the soap.

I added 1 Tbsp. Chamomile Bergamount FO and  1/2 T. lemon eo

It turned a dark mossy green brown and is wonderful to smell and use.
