Mica, Mica, Mica! Page2

First a big thanks to all that helped build this section. It is important to remind you that your results may vary, many things effect a final color, especially in CP soap. Hot Processed soaps may also give you different results than you may achieve in CP soap. Always make a test batch, you may be surprised. If you would like to contribute to this page, please follow the format found in the samples below, include your name and web site url if you would like a free plug, if you would like to remain anonymous, that's okay too, just let me know. Please send mail with the subject line-MICA to webmaster@soapnuts.com

*Note-the following pics submitted by Sue K. that have a "?" may have come from either Penny (Sage Meadow Sundries) or Stuff Julie Likes.

Name of mica:  Cellini Blue
Name of Supplier:  Brambleberry
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final Color:  lavender
Comments:  Used with pearberry fo, which normally gives me a very slight
discoloration.  Used 1/2 tsp for 3 pounds of oil, poured in PVC tube, which
seems to give a little more discoloration.  This is fully cured.

Name of mica:  Doin' the Mambo
Name of Supplier:  Stuff Julie Likes
Type of product used in:  CP
Final Color:  A nice rosy color

The bar pictured here is fully cured.

Name of mica:  Baby Pumpkin
Name of Supplier:  ?? Penny?
Type of product used in:  CP
Final Color: A soft orange
Comments:  This was 1/2 tsp again in a 3 pound of oil batch.  When not
swirling, I put my mica directly into my warm oils before adding the lye
mixture.  This was scented with Poozart's California Poppy.

Name of mica:  Ruby
Name of Supplier:  ?? Penny?
Type of product used in:  CPOP
Final Color: A deep magenta
Comments:  Used this as a swirl...3/4 tsp to about 1 1/2 cups lightly traced
soap, plus a few drops of liquid red colorant (French).  Swirled in the mold
and CPOP.  Scented with Lovespell from Wholesale Supplies.  Credit for this
entire color and fragrance combo really must go to Jennifer Nehas who I
tried to emulate here.

Name of mica:  24K Gold
Name of Supplier:?? Penny?
Type of product used in:  CP
Final Color:  This is a lovely peach/shell color with a faint hint of
sparkle, which is hard to see here.
Comments:  I used about 3/4 of a tsp to a 3 pound batch.  This is scented
with MMS Satsuma.  This is probably my favorite soap right now.

I don't have pictures to send right now, but will try to do so when I can.
I'd like to make some additional comments about other micas I've used:

1.  Cellini Blue from BB -- this is probably my favorite mica to use.  I
love the varying effects I get.  I have used it in CPHP, added after cook
and used as a swirl, and it has retained a stunning peacock blue/green color
in the soap.  In addition, I am currently curing a soap in which I used
about 1/2 tsp in 52 oz of oil, and achieved a beautiful translucent and pale
violet color.

2.  Carribean Coral -- I'm not sure if I got this from Penny or from Stuff
July Likes.  Either way, in the bag it is a dynamic bright rose color.  In
CP soap, it turns the most magnificent and intense shade of orange.  I used
it with BBs Berry Wine, and had to re-name the soap Harvest Wine.  It has
gathered a lot of attention.

Pictures to follow when available on the above two.
Name of Mica:  Crimson Mica

Supplier:  Pigment Lady/Coloration Station

Type of product used in:  CP soap

Final color:  Red - truer than red oxide

Comments:  Used 1 t. Mica to 1 C. Swirl for a good dark color - this was swirled (along with a blue ox.) in the pot - an 8# batch.
No bleeding or migration after two months.

in CP

Light Gold Mica
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Sheen of gold
Comments:  This color gives just a sheen and a touch of shine to CP - it
warms up the tones a bit but isn't a strong gold color.

White
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  White
Comments:  This color doesn't actually do much in terms of color but it will
lighten nicely and add a bit of sheen and sophistication to your final bar.

Green

jar.

Blue
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Light Teal
Comments:  This light blue mica actually goes more of a teal in your cold process soap.

Cappuccino
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Brown
Comments:  This color ends up being a straight brown in CP soap without much
sheen or shine.

Red/Blue

Final color:  Pink

Red/Blue Mica and Blue Mica
Violet
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com

light purple color.

Merlot (Crimson) Pearl
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Light crimson
Comments:  This is actually a nice blue-backed red/crimson in soap and stays
very true; just a little lighter than the actual mica in the jar.

Antique Blue
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Gray Blue
Comments:  This color isn't real great in CP. Because of the lack of light
reflection/refraction, the blue doesn't come out very fully and the final
color in CP ends up being more of a gray.

Patina Sheen
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Gray Green
Comments:  This color isn't real great in CP. Because of the lack of light
reflection/refraction, the gray doesn't come out very fully and the final
color in CP ends up being more of a gray.

Coral Mica
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Peach
Comments:  This color goes a Peach in CP soap.

Gold Sparkle
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Gold/Yellow
Comments:  This color gives more of a warm yellow tone as the sparkles don't
show up nearly as well in CP as they do in MP; however, it is a
sophisticated glowing yellow and not as flat as a yellow oxide

Copper Sparkle
Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Brown/Copper
Comments:  This doesn't stay as copper as I'd like it in CP soap (again, the
lack of light reflection in the CP soap) but it makes a nice warm brown.
It's excellent as a thick swirl - the copper seems to show up better there.

Shamrock Green

Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Orchard/Pink color
Comments:  The color actually turns out to be quite romantic but doesn't
stay green in CP soap. It takes approximately 24 hours to develop into the
Orchard color.

Red Mica (Cellini Red)

Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Orange/Red
Comments:  This color reacts differently depending on how much you use. You
will start out with a shocking red color and over time, the color may fade
to more of a coral/peach/orange color.

Cellini Blue

Supplier:  Bramble Berry Inc. www.brambleberry.com
Type of product used in:  CP soap
Final color:  Deep purple
Comments:  This color is fantastic because it goes a nice purple without
purple lather. It will take a full 24 hours to develop this fully so don't
despair if all you see is pink at first!
