vauz83a@carlsbadnm.com

another wonderful use for honey- especially if your hair is very dry,
and you want to restore the elastisity  and moisturize it- mix up the
following-
one egg, 2 oz of honey, 2 oz of mayonnaise, and 2 oz of your favorite
deep conditioner, (or your regular cond if you want) shampoo your hair,
apply the mixture, cover w/ a shower or processing cap, then wrap a
large hot (from the dryer) towel around that. relax for at least 20
minutes, or sit under a dryer if you have one (sans towel) .
let  temp of your hair come down to room temp before rinsing- which you

Easy Handmade Paper

You need
a blender
old paper... (that you have written on, used wrapping paper...etc..)
water
one of those Rubbermaid things that some people put in the sink to wash
there dishes in... (you can find them at wallyworld by the dish
strainers)
an old picture frame without the glass..
a piece of screen (like the stuff in doors and windows) that can be
stretched around the frame.
felt or fleece
a sponge
1.  Stretch the screen around the frame and staple (like canvas)
2.  Tear paper into small pieces.. (enough to fill the blender 1/3 full)
3.  Place the torn paper into the blender.
4.  Fill the blender with water.
Cover the blender.. hehe
5. Turn the blender on, and pulverize the paper until you get a nice
consistency..
6. Pour the contents of the blender into the Rubbermaid thing..

Repeat 2-6 until you fill the Rubbermaid thing 1/2 full.

Now here comes the fun part

Hold the frame so the flat side is on the top..
take the frame and hold it parallel (still with the flat side facing
you)
Hold the frame on the edge of the Rubbermaid container, and dip it in..
keeping the frame towards the bottom of the Rubbermaid thing pull it
towards
you...
slowly pull the frame up... there should be a lot of pulp on the frame.
Hold it over the Rubbermaid container, and let it drain for 30
seconds...

On a table place some scrap cardboard... (or something so your table
will
not get wet)
Place the felt or fleece on the table..
carefully take the frame over to the table with the felt on it.
flip the frame over, with the pulp facing down towards the felt..
put the frame on the felt..
press gently..
take your sponge and soak up the extra water...
when most of the excess water is removed, slowly lift up the frame...
the
pulp (now wet paper) should stay on the felt...

The paper will take a few days to dry..
after it dries... you might want to iron it to flatten it out..

you can get creative with this once you get the hang of it.. you can add
pine needles, dried flowers, herbs.......

This is one I use to make, when I made shaving soap.
(this recipe fills 16 shaving mugs (coffee cup size).

Olive oil - 18oz
Coconut oil - 12 oz
Soybean oil - 48 oz

Sodium hydroxide - 11.2oz
water - 32.06oz

Superfat with a mixture of:
3 Tbl castor oil
6 Tbl green clay
2 Tbl comfrey root powder

Scent with:
2oz Spearmint EO
1/2oz Lavender EO

wyldwmn
slug slime formula

        1/4 cup glycerine
1 cup mild dishwashing detergent (Ivory)
        1 tsp. sugar
        50 drops fragrance oil

Add 2-3 Tablespoons to bath water.

I whipped some of this up in a cup, and the bubbles stayed for two
hours.

BODY SPLASH

Vodka                           2 tsp.
White wine vinegar       4 oz.
Spring water                  2 cups
essential oil for scent  (some combinations to follow)

First, blend the essential oils together.  Add them to the vodka and
shake well for as long as you can.  Leave them all to settle, then add the
vinegar.  Pour the whole mixure into 2 cups of spring water and again
shake well.  Finally, pass the liquid through a paper coffee filter.  The
longer you leave the essential oils in the vodka and vinegar mix before adding
to the water, the stronger the scent will be.  It can be splashed on the
body anytime, or put in a spray bottle and sprayed on.  No oily residue left
on the skin.  They can be used as bactericides and deodarants too,
depending on the eo's that you use!
Here's some scent combinations:

DEODORANT SPLASH                              INVIGORATING SPLASH
5 drops Lavender                                          10   drops
Lime
5 drops Sage                                                 10 drops
Lavender
5 drops Lemon                                               5 drops
Peppermint
5 drops Rosemary                                          3 drops Lemon
3 drops Peppermint
5 drops Grapefruit

SOOTHING SPLASH                                    FRUITY SPLASH
10 drops Benzoin                                           10 drops
Orange
2 drops Nutmeg                                                5 drops
Lemon
10 drops Sandalwood                                    10 drops Mandarin

Judy Politte Liquid Shampoo

Coconut Oil (solid 76 degree)    8oz     25%
Soybean Oil (liquid)                    16oz   50%
Sunflower Oil (liquid)                  8oz    25%
Distilled Water                                12oz

Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)
5%              6.30
6%              6.24
7%              6.17
8%              6.11

I used 6.20 on the KOH so that put me about 6.5%.

I heated the oils in nuker  and mixed at these temps:
Oil             150 F.
Lye solution    145 F.

I mixed these with a stick blender until the motor got hot.  I stirred
with a spoon while the motor cooled.  It starts to separate the minute I go
to spoon.  It separates if you stop mixing.  You have to keep mixing this
until it gets pretty thick.  I continued mixing this soap till it was
obviously traced and it became so thick I could not pour into a small
neck bottle.  I had to put into a plastic canister.  I put this to bed just
as if it were bar soap for 24 hours.  Then I just let it set for a week.
The first day it had a half inch clear liquid on top but this did not have
the consistency of oil.  It was like thick gel.  I mixed it back in and
left it the rest of the week.

After the week cure is up you add 8 oz. of glycerin and enough water to
thin it to the consistency you desire.  You can also add fragrance at this time.

I added the glycerin and about 32 oz. of water.  It was so thick that I put it in the crock pot and melted it so it would mix with the water better.  It worked well.  I strained it into a jar and left overnight to cool and see how thick it would get.  It is about the consistency of honey and about that color.  I put about 4 oz in another jar last night and added some
FO. Just a little Sweetgrass  and Heliotrope.  The shampoo I added the FO
to got a little cloudy and this morning it was much thicker than the
plain. (Surprise)  I used about a heaping teaspoon full to wash my hair this
morning.
I LOVE IT!!!  It lathers well.  To my surprise.  I used about double
what I would have of commercial Shampoo.  It felt a little slicker than
commercial shampoo.  I think that was the glycerin.  It rinsed out well.  I have
hair to about the middle of my back.  It is not thick nor thin and pretty
fine. I usually get a lot of tangles but do not use creme rinse since it
leaves my hair limp.  I expected this shampoo to leave my hair a tangled mess.
It did not.  I combed out very nicely.  My DH used it this morning as
well. He likes it, too.
I am extremely happy with this recipe.  As you can tell.  I think it
will definitely work as an alternative to commercial shampoos.  I am going
to test it as a bubble bath next.

Smelly Jelly's I

1/2 tsp. Soil Moist (aka Hydrosoil, polymer crystals, etc.)
1 cup water
Add FO and color of your choice.

When I did it I used liquid poupouri (from Walmart)instead of thw water/fo/colorant.  Since the liquid poupouri has some color to it, I didn't have to worry about it.

Smelly Jelly's II
I make smelly jellies alot and
people just love them. I sell them the most when I do fairs,
more than the soaps.  Easy as pie to make.  Go to the  garden
store or Walmart garden center and get Agrosoak crystals. They
are the little crystals that you put in the soil to hold water.
Then get a nice litte jar (I use baby food jars since my sister
had a TON of them) and clean it out good.  Get a big bowl and
put some crystals in it, maybe 1/2 cup.  Then fill it with water
to cover by 2 or 3 inches.  These babies really expand!  Stir
a bit and let them swell. Add a few drops of food coloring if
you want or split it up and color as you want.  Scent too.  Just
a few drops of scent is all you need.  Fill each jar to the top
with the hydrated crystals.  Then take a nice piece of lace and
cut it in a circle and place it over the opening of the filled
jar and place a tiny rubber band around it.  Then tie a ribbon
around it and tie a bow.

Enfleurage Method
I have read 2 ways of extracting from jasmine flowers .

1: 2 aluminum pie plates , enough white coconut oil to cover the bottom
of one . place blossoms onto the coconut oil & then top w/ the second pie
tin . Leave on counter , ( out of sun ) check every day & when petals
start to turn brown , replace w/ fresh . This process may take weeks
before you have any noticable scent imparted into the oil . The scented
oil is then used for lotions , lotion bars , solid perfume .

2 : involves taking a thin layer of coconut oil and spreading it thin
into a clean glass cake pan , then placing the freshly picked jasmine
flowers onto the fat. Removing flowers as they start to turn brown and
repeat as many times as is needed , which you can then use as is, or
dissolve in pure vodka to let the essential oil float to the top . There
will only be a few small yellowish drops & the easiest way to harvest is
to use an eyedropper . If, you choose this method , it's nicest to use it
in a solid perfume!

If, someone has scads of rose petals or lilac blossoms ( plucked off from
the stems ) , I'm sure either method will work .   Hel : )

Easy Castile Shampoo
Dr. Bronner's can be found at any health food store usually or on the
web.....there is also a soap company that makes liquid castile, I'll have
to think about the name, it's the site that has the history of soapmaking
on it if anyone knows it off-hand.
Camille gave the directions for making your own liquid castile base using
handmade soap, which you can also do....the liquid castile is potassium
based concentrated liquid soap.
You can make herbal infusions in the water that is added to the
concentrated form or to the grated castile.....
I prefer 3 parts concentrated castile to (3 parts distilled water and a 1/4
tsp. of borax). I have very dry hair so I like to make it moisturizing. If
I'm making up just one bottle (appox. 9 ounces) I add 1/2 teaspoon shea or
mango butter, 1/2 teaspoon fractionated coconut oil (grapeseed is also good
as is jojoba)
and 1/2 teaspoon essential oils or fragrance.
Very simple.
You have to heat the water and borax to just before boiling until the borax
is dissolved, lower the heat and let the water cool down to just warm, stir
in the oil and butter until the butter melts, then stir in the castile,
whisk really well, take off heat and let cool slightly, whisk again, add
the fragrance/eo then pour into bottle.
Just so nobody is shocked when they make and use this, we are eliminating
those chemicals which I believe to be harmful and which cause the luxurious
lather and dense foam tha commercial shampoos give, this is not like that,
LOL!, but it does the job and is better for you and your family, : ) If you
have oily hair, omit the oil and possibly the butter, you'll have to decide
what works for you. As with shampoo bars, I prefer using a vinegar rinse
after washing my hair....

Powder Puffs

for powder puffs, first determine how large you would like them .
For top fabric...velveteen , faux fur , fleece, ( informal ..flannel ) .
Bottom layer...satin, nylon, combed ( polished  ) cotton , ( informal
..flannel ) . Inbetween layers ( I like to include a thin disk of sponge
rubber ) & polyester batting .

Cut all 1 " larger then finished item . Top (place it so the right side
is facing you ).. then batting ,  Add 1/16 or 1/8 " satin ribbon across
the disk ..then bottom fabric (again facing you  ) sew around...leave
turning opening . Trim around edge ..then clip ALMOST to the edge of the
stitching all the way around . ( this will make it lie flat ) .  Turn
rite side out . ( blind stitch the opening ) . If layered correctly the
puff will be ready to use .  If , you're not sure you've laid it out
right , place a pin on an edge & peel back the layers to see if , when
turned riteside out if the outside of the fabric is correct . A cute add
on to the satin handle is a ribbon rosebud , sewn thru the bud into the
strap . I like to trapunto the top fabric when I use velveteen or satin .
Very upscale top fabric is batik or hand dyed silks .

Bath Sponge
Materials:
1 yard bridal illusion fine fabric available in most fabric stores (
tulle )
1 yard satin ribbon
Steps:
Lay the fabric out on a flat surface and fold it in thirds as you would
fold a letter. Starting at one end, scrunch the fabric together, working
your way to the opposite end. Tie a knot around the center of the
gathered fabric. Now, gather the two loose ends of the ribbon together,
and tie into a second knot.
Hang your sponge over the shower head or bath spout.
